Under-13 'B' Sharks win Nova Scotia provincial championship

TRURO, N.S. - The New Waterford Sharks are provincial champions.

The New Waterford Minor Hockey Association under-13 'B' team captured the Nova Scotia provincial championship during the annual Day of Champions at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.

The Sharks defeated the Dartmouth Whalers 3-1 to claim the title.

Ashten Pastuck scored all three goals to lead the New Waterford club, who celebrate the championship with a parade through the streets of town on April 10.

Austin Wall had the lone goal for the Whalers.

New Waterford's Reid Mayich was the winning goaltender. Dartmouth's Grayson Carpenter and Cole Vautour shared time in goal.

Last month, the Sharks captured the Cape Breton Cup title, defeating the Glace Bay Miners in the league final.

Congratulations to all the players and coaching staff for the successful season.

Feb. 18, 2022 - Under-18 'C' - Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre - Sydney Steelers (4), New Waterford Sharks (3):

The New Waterford Sharks dropped a 4-3 decision to the Sydney Steelers in Cape Breton Under-18 'C' Hockey League action.

Ethan Billard scored twice, while Angus Campbell and Ryan Cromwell added single markers for the Steelers.

Alex Kennedy netted a pair of goals, while Justin Chiasson chipped in with a goal for the Sharks.

Sydney's Austin Harnish picked up the win in goal. New Waterford's Tyler Stubbard shouldered the loss.

Feb. 19, 2022 - Under-18 'C' - New Waterford and District Community Centre - New Waterford Sharks (7), Sydney Steelers (2):

One day after losing to the Steelers on the road, the New Waterford Sharks returned the favour, defeating Sydney 7-2 in Cape Breton Under-18 'C' Hockey League action.

Alex Kennedy scored four times, while Justin Chiasson added three goals for the Sharks.

Josh Desmond and Ethan Billard replied with goals for the Steelers.

New Waterford's Tyler Stubbard claimed the win in goal. Sydney's Austin Harnish suffered the loss between the pipes.

Cale Baker recorded a hat trick to power the New Waterford Sharks to a 5-2 win in Cape Breton Under-13 'B' Hockey League action.

Auston Pastuck also found the scoresheet with a pair of goals for the Sharks.

Statistics for Cape Breton County were not available.

New Waterford's Reid Mayich was the winning goaltender. Goaltending statistics for Cape Breton County were not provided.

Feb. 26, 2022 - Under-13 'B' - New Waterford and District Community Centre - New Waterford Sharks (8), Cape Breton West Islanders (2):

Auston Pastuck fired home a hat trick in the New Waterford Sharks' 8-2 victory over the Cape Breton West Islanders in Cape Breton Under-13 'B' Hockey League action.

Cooper Crosby found the back of the net twice, while Connor Brown, Alex Robicheau, and Owen Gatto added single markers for the Sharks.

Grant Rankin scored both goals for the Islanders.

New Waterford's Reid Mayich posted the victory. Cape Breton West's Sam Watson was tagged with the loss.

Feb. 26, 2022 - Under-23 - New Waterford and District Community Centre - New Waterford Sharks (10), Glace Bay Miners (5):

The New Waterford Sharks made quick work of the Glace Bay Miners in their Cape Breton Under-23 Hockey League season opener on Saturday.

The Sharks defeated the Miners 10-5 at the New Waterford and District Community Centre.

Aaron MacLean and Hayden Desrosiers both scored twice, while Brett Baxter, Waylon Petrie, Dylan Williams, Daniel Nemis, Carter Brown, and Hayden Forward chipped in with goals for the Sharks.

Matthew MacIntosh scored three times for the Miners, while David Beaton and Dylan O'Neill added single goals for the Miners.

New Waterford's Mike Rockett and Sheldon GooGoo shared time in goal for the victory. Glace Bay's Brady MacDonald was tagged with the loss. Goaltending Statistics were not available.

The Minor Hockey Weekly Recap will be published every Monday on the New Waterford Minor Hockey website. The deadline for submissions is Sunday at 8 p.m.

Ticket draw returns this weekend Jan 15-16

Our weekly 50/50 draw will be returning on a week-by-week basis, however several changes will be made to our regular drop off. These changes are in order to help protect the health and safety of our members during ticket drop off.

- Until further notice the draw will be held in the upstairs of the NWDCC, drop offs will be broken into 2 days in order to reduce the number of people entering the building, with one entry in and one entry out.

- Entry will be made through the main foyer to the upstairs entrance.

- Exiting will be made through the side door upstairs and out the side doors of the facility.

- NWMHA staff will help assist you on entry and exiting, upon entering and exiting the building.

- Social distancing, masks and sanitizing are all mandatory upon entry.

***U7 to U11 ticket drop off will take place Saturday Jan 15th from 6pm to 8pm

***U13 to U18 & Skating Club (can-skate) ticket drop off will take place Sunday Jan 16th from 11am-2pm

Hockey Nova Scotia - COVID-19 Notice - Dec. 21

The Dec. 21 announcement will greatly impact our teams, associations, and leagues over the next few weeks. As of Dec. 22, the following will take effect:

 

  • Games and tournaments are not permitted
  • A maximum of 10 participants (including coaches and instructors) will be permitted in the field of play for practices and training; physical distancing is not required during these sessions, but masks are required everywhere in the facility but on the ice
  • Spectators will be not be permitted at any activities
  • Travel restrictions remain in effect that prohibit children age 11 and younger from entering or leaving Nova Scotia to participate in sports

 

We want to clarify that only one (1) group of up to 10 participants (including coaches and instructors) is permitted on the ice. Multiple groups are not allowed.
