Hockey Nova Scotia - COVID-19 Notice - Dec. 21

The Dec. 21 announcement will greatly impact our teams, associations, and leagues over the next few weeks. As of Dec. 22, the following will take effect:

 

  • Games and tournaments are not permitted
  • A maximum of 10 participants (including coaches and instructors) will be permitted in the field of play for practices and training; physical distancing is not required during these sessions, but masks are required everywhere in the facility but on the ice
  • Spectators will be not be permitted at any activities
  • Travel restrictions remain in effect that prohibit children age 11 and younger from entering or leaving Nova Scotia to participate in sports

 

We want to clarify that only one (1) group of up to 10 participants (including coaches and instructors) is permitted on the ice. Multiple groups are not allowed.

HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA NOTICE - DEC. 13, 2021

The following information is effective Dec 17th until the new year (date to be determined after review of cases) 
 
  • spectators are limited to 50 per cent of a facility’s capacity; spectator limits are also capped at a maximum of 150 people
  • a limit of 60 participants indoors and outdoors applies to sports practices, games, and regular league play; physical distancing is not required
  • tournaments are not allowed
  • children age 11 and younger continue to be restricted from entering Nova Scotia to participate in sports and are also restricted from participating in them outside Nova Scotia

REGULAR LEAGUE PLAY

 

We have clarified with Public Health that regular league play refers to the current league that your team is playing in. This includes provincial leagues.

 

MASKS

 

On the ice, masks are not required during practices, training sessions, and games. Off the ice, masks are required everywhere (especially in the dressing room).

 

It is extremely important that you continue to wear your mask when you are not on the ice.

 

Please note that coaches and instructors who work with more than one group must wear a mask at all times while inside the facility (including while on the ice).

MINOR HOCKEY WEEKLY RECAP: Under-13 'B' Sharks post three straight wins to end the week

NEW WATERFORD, N.S. - The New Waterford Sharks under-13 'B' team capitalized on their opportunities this past week and scored three straight victories to finish the week ending Dec. 13.

On Saturday, the Sharks edged the Cape Breton County Islanders 5-4.

Ashten Pastuck and Cooper Crosby led the offense for the Sharks with two goals apiece, while Owen Gatto chipped in with a single marker for the Sharks.

BJ Francis, Connor MacLean, Jacob MacKinnon, and Jackson Lahey replied with goals for the Islanders.

Goaltending information was not available.

On Dec. 6, New Waterford doubled Cape Breton County 4-2 at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.

Crosby, Pastuck, Cale Baker and Ryan McLaughlin found the back of the net for the Sharks.

Travis Boyd and Owen Jeddore-Gould replied with goals for the Islanders.

Goaltending information was not available.

Meanwhile, on Dec. 6, the Sharks dropped the Northside Vikings 12-5 at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney.

Baker had a hat trick, while Pastuck fired home a pair of goals. Crosby, Gatto, Brody Baldwin, Jake MacKinnon, Erik Hillier, Connor

Brown, and Alex Robicheau also found the score sheet with single goals for New Waterford.

Carter King, Sophia Lyle, Cole MacKenzie, Andrew Penney and Kaiden Kimotho answered with goals for Northside.

New Waterford's Matt MacNeil posted the win in goal. Northside's Chase Hurley was tagged with the loss.

MINOR HOCKEY WEEKLY RECAP: New Waterford Sharks post wins on home ice

NEW WATERFORD, N.S. - With the season in full swing, the New Waterford Sharks picked up a pair of victories in minor hockey play over the past two weeks on home ice at the New Waterford and District Community Centre.

Most recently, the under-18 'AA' Sharks downed the Glace Bay Miners 5-3 on Nov. 29.

Five different goal scorers found the back of the net for the home team including Dawson Cecchetto, Bryson McNeil, Calan MacLean, Christian Lewis, and Nolan Francis.

Niklas MacDonald, Kolby Campbell, and Braeden Hogan replied with goals for the Miners.

Goaltending information was not available.

Meanwhile, on Nov. 21, the under-13 'C' Sharks edged the Glace Bay Miners No. 1 7-6.

Eric MacDougall scored twice, including the game-winner at 11:27 of the third period, while Jasper Gaudet netted a pair of goals. Rowan Boone, Lucas Markotjohn, and Lucas McMaster chipped in with single markers.

Jake Boutilier scored twice for the Miners, while Olivia Hearn, Jacek Musial, Connor O'Keefe, and Josh Demeyer

Christmas Giving

New Waterford Minor Hockey is asking for your help this holiday season! We are collecting food or monetary donations in support of our local food banks this Christmas. We strongly believe in helping others and try to help out as much as we can! If any hockey families would be interested in helping, you may drop off your non perishable food items, or money to our Minor Hockey room (back of rink) on Sundays during ticket drop off time, or contact Ashley Hillier. Lets get this box full and make some Holidays a lot brighter for some families in need!
